Battle at the Breeze High School Tournament
The Youth Tennis Foundation of Florida (YTF) sponsored the First Annual Battle at the Breeze
Junior Varsity Tennis Tournament held February 10-12, 2022 at Shoreline Tennis Complex in Gulf Breeze.
YTF Board member, Scott Harrison, presents Gulf Breeze coach Mitzi Schafer with a $500 check to help
offset costs for the event. "This is a perfect type of event for the YTF's involvement," said Harrison.
Schafer, came up with a terrific idea for an early season event for junior varsity tennis players called the
Battle at the Breeze. Coach Schafer reasoned that with four teams of boys and girls playing 5 singles and
two doubles per each team match, the young jv players would get real match time that they would not ordinarily
get during the regular season since many of the schools don't play jv schedules.
Actually 60 singles and 24 doubles matches were played on Thursday and Friday afternoon and all day on
Saturday. The 10 court Gulf Breeze Shoreline Park Tennis Facility was used for the event. Shoreline is
set up so well to handle team events like this one. Shoreline will be the host of the High School District
tennis tournament again in April of 2022.
In addition to host Gulf Breeze, Niceville, Fort Walton Beach and Tallahassee Chiles players participated
in the event.
Niceville Coach Brian Braziel's boys won the title in their division.
